Cape Verde is a major nesting site for the loggerhead sea turtle and Project Biodiversity works to increase the number of hatchlings released into the ocean year on year. This craft beer collaboration between The Beer Company & Project Biodiversity aims to raise awareness about the increasing threats to sea turtles and other wildlife in Cape Verde, including poaching, unregulated coastal development and marine pollution. Cape Verde is the third most important nesting site for the endangered Loggerhead sea turtle, yet the population of Loggerheads that nest in the archipelago remains one of the most endangered marine turtle populations around the world. Since its inception in 2015, Project Biodiversity has been working to combat these threats through a range of environmental initiatives, from direct protection of the island’s marine turtle population to community engagement, inspiring local environmental action and support for conservation. This year they released over 98,000 baby turtles from their hatcheries and protected over 21 km of nesting beaches, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Project Biodiversity (Projeto Biodiversidade) is a Cabo Verdean non-profit organisation committed to the protection of wildlife through community-focused environmental initiatives in Sal, Cape Verde.
