From light, slightly sweet and fruity ever day drinking Rose wines to deeper, fuller fruity Rose wine, a great compliment to many dishes and as occasion drinks. Rose, contrary to popular belief is not produced by blending red and white wine.
Rose is made from red grape varieties; nowadays wine makers do mix a certain amount of white grape with the red.
Dependent on the style of Rose wanting to be produced will alter the process in which it is made. For light, pale Rose wine such as blush varietals, white zinfandel, pinot grigio and other gray style rose’s the grapes are pressed on arrival to the cellar and the juice is left in contact with the skin for minimal time.
For deeper coloured Rose wine such as cabernet sauvignon and Grenache varietals the grapes are put in fermentation after being crushed, the wine maker then chooses the intensity of the colour by controlling a sample every hour of the solid element until they are happy.
For very deep and intense coloured Rose often produced by Merlot and blended varieties every hour during fermentation, the wine maker will take a certain amount of juice out, thus intensifying the colour.
Rose is becoming more and more popular due to its flexibility described above; Rose wine can produce white and red wine styles.
